To Collect & Collate: The Keepers of Black Photography is a three-day convening devoted to the custodians of the Black photography archive: the artists, archivists, collectors, scholars, curators, and cultural workers who preserve, interpret, and steward the visual histories of the African diaspora.
Co-organized by Laylah Amatullah Barrayn and Professor Emilie Boone and hosted at NYU Accra, the gathering foregrounds those whose care, expertise, and commitment make Black photographic memory accessible across generations. Through conversations, workshops, and presentations, To Collect & Collate brings together the people and practices that hold the archive, creating a space for knowledge exchange, resource sharing, and collective reflection on the past, present, and future of Black photography.
To Collect & Collate: The Keepers of Black Photography is hosted by NYU Accra, with primary support from NYU’s Office of Global Programs (OGP) through its Global Opportunity Grants.
This convening is further strengthened by the generous support of the Ford Foundation.
